 |
          | The origin of the city of Guanajuato was in the discovery of the fabulous silver mines that made the city, in the late eighteenth century, the largest producer of metal then known worldwide. The first findings are shrouded in legends in which it is difficult to distinguish reality from fantasy. However, there seems to be no doubt that it was in  year 1548 when they began to work the first shafts of the “Rayas and Mellado” mine, and that it was that year when, from these shafts they would discover the mother lode of Guanajuato famous mining era. This prodigious grain runs along the hills that limit Guanajuato to the north and the northeast, leaving a constellation of earth surfaces mine shafts and adits, constantly in pursuit of the path of the streak broken. |
