Getting to venue

Dear participants of the VI International Conference on Speckle Metrology (SPECKLE 2015), Here are some instructions on how to reach the conference venue: “Hotel Camino Real” in the city of Guanajuato.

1. From Bajio’s airport (BJX) to “Hotel Camino Real”

“Del Bajío (BJX)” International Airport is located in the municipality of Silao, which is about 40 km from the city of Guanajuato. There is no public transportation from this airport to the city of Guanajuato.
From the airport, you can get to Guanajuato by taxi (40 km). Just down the hall from the airport arrivals area you will find a stand selling tickets for the taxis. Ask for a ticket to Guanajuato City. The taxi ride takes about 30 minutes, and the fare is approximately 400 pesos (approximately US$26). Payment with US dollars are accepted, but not with credit cards. In the hall, there is an ATM connected to the Plus and Cirrus networks, as well as a currency exchange office.

2. From Mexico City’s International Airport (MEX)

Once outside the arrivals area, go to any of the taxi stands. Ask for a ticket to the Northern Bus Terminal or “Terminal Central del Norte”. The trip will take at least 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions, and the fare is about 200 pesos (approximately US$13). We do not advise to take the subway (“metro”), as suitcases are not allowed and one has to transfer a couple of times.
From Mexico City’s Northern Bus Terminal (Terminal Central del Norte) to Guanajuato City
Choose between either “ETN” or “Primera Plus” brand-buses, which are located at gate (“sala”) 1 and offer direct connections to Guanajuato, each having about ten departures per day. The bus ride takes about 5 hours and the fare on ETN is 565 pesos, while a ticket on Primera Plus costs 470 pesos. From Guanajuato’s bus station take a taxi to the hotel (5 km, 15 min ride), and the fare is about 50 pesos. There are no taxi stands to buy tickets, and you should pay directly to the driver.

3. From Guadalajara ́s International Airport (GDL)

Take a taxi to Guadalajara’s Central Bus Station (“Central de Autobuses”), the fare is approximately 300 pesos, and the trip takes at least 20 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Choose between “ETN” and “Primera Plus” who offer direct services to Guanajuato, with about ten departures a day. Travel time is approximately 4 hours and the fare is about 400 pesos (ETN) or 300 pesos (Primera Plus). From Guanajuato’s bus station take a taxi to the hotel (5 km, 15 min ride), and the fare is about 50 pesos. There are no taxi stands to buy tickets, and you should pay directly to the driver.

A friendly suggestion

Accidents and medical emergencies can happen anywhere, at any time – no matter how careful you are. Do not forget to buy suitable travel insurance before leaving your country.
